MQI: ECP re-constitution plea: Hearing adjourned

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, took up the petition of Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri for preliminary hearing in which he prayed to the Court to order reconstitution of the Election Commission of Pakistan as the latter was not formed according to Articles 213 and 218 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

The petition seeking reconstitution of the Election Commission has been accepted for regular hearing. The respondents have been issued notices.

The Supreme Court adjourned the hearing of Dr Tahirul Qadri’s petition seeking re-constitution of the Election Commission till tomorrow.

Addressing the media, Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that the Constitution of Pakistan does not regard dual nationality a crime. No Article of the Constitution bars a dual nationality holder from filing a petition.
